INTRODUCTION

Rosenshine tells us that research indicates an optimal success rate for student achievement at around 80%. This provides the best balance of successful practice and consolidation and an appropriate level of challenge. If students are asked to practise too much material at once and begin to make errors, they are more likely to form misconceptions.

It is important to stop and re-teach material where students are not succeeding or to adjust the level of challenge. If the success rate is much higher than 80%, the work might be too easy.
